VINTAGE PAPAGO OR TOHONO O'ODHAM INDIAN BASKET TRAY with HUMAN FIGURES
DESIGN BY ROSITA STIEN AT BIG FIELD
A beautiful Native American 11 1/2" x 9" genuine Papago (also known as Tohono O'Odham) Indian Basket Tray.
This basket tray has a flat oval base with straight upward sides rising to 1 inch
and ending with a beautiful heavy dark decorated rim.
The tray is made of braided grass with a decoration in the center field depicting
four human figures with their arms to their sides.
Brown is yucca root.
Black is of devil's claw seed pod.
Other basket examples with this design were made by Rosita Stien at Big Field.
Date: mid to late 1900s.
Origin: Papago or Tohono O'Odham tribe of Arizona, USA
Condition: The basket is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs.
It does have some minor soiling.
The item will be carefully packed for safe shipping.
