    Description

    This lovely basket was woven in the traditional coiled method by a Papago Pima Native American from Arizona and was purchased from a trusted estate seller.
    Scarce Papago Fine Hand Woven Tohono O'odham Native American Basket. This basket has a unique and expertly woven with images of people and animals (deer, elk or horse) figures central to the design.  Deer are a traditional design character.
    This is a tri-colour creation accomplished by an expert craftsman  of The Papago Pima Tohono O’odham Tribe, By Hand coiled devil’s Claw, tight wraps of beargrass bundles coiled in bleached yucca.  The design is rendered in the dark natural color of devil’s claw with yucca dried in the shade giving this basket its color.  It is finished with a whip stitch of devil’s claw.
    This is a unique find and a special basket.  RARE
