    Description

    Up for auction is a Vintage Alabama Coushatta Native American hand woven lidded basket using only pine needles and raffia.  Prior to the 1780's the tribe lived primarily in Alabama.  After 1780 the tribe began to migrate to what is now known as East Texas.  The Alabama Coushatta Indians live on the oldest reservation in the state, over 10,000 acres of land in the Big Thicket of Deep East Texas.
    They continue their art of basket weaving today.
