Vintage African/Native American(?) Flat Wall Basket 9 inch/diameter Beautiful!. If this listing seems confusing, I apologize, and allow me to explain. I picked this basket up at an estate where I purchased a number of excellent Native American and First Nation items. Most purchased in the 80/90's in the northwest (Washington,Oregon, British Columbia) and northern California. Now, I got a good price when this was added to a lot I was already purchasing when I voiced my concerns i.e.: in the mid 80's into the early 90's there was an issue with African baskets being sold to dealers as Native American. It actually was a widespread problem (counterfeit Galle' Glass as well) I am not saying this is not an authentic Native American basket. I am saying I am not an expert and do not know if the original buyer was either! The weave is tight, it a beautiful basket and has all the hallmarks of a Southwestern basket. Yet weaving is one of those dawn of time art forms. I if I had not been aware of the "scam" I would not have bat an eye. Yet I have been doing this for a minute now (looooooong minute) and am sharing this information as to be fully transparent. Thank You. No Reasonable Offer Refused!!
