This is a very old, possibly antique, Papago/Tohono O'odham Native American Hand Woven Coil Basket, probably dating from 1930-1950's, in the popular Man in the Maze design. The basket is woven of Bear Grass coils wrapped in Yucca and Devil's Claw for the darker designs. It is extremely well made with tightly woven straw that barely allows any light through!!! Amazing!!! It has some very very light wear and a bit of fading from age. I think it gives the basket some fascinating character! I don't see any damage, breaks, or missing stitches. Part of my father's collection, it was acquired in or around Tucson, AZ, where we lived for 36 years and where I grew up. I remember going to many Pow-Wow's at San Xavier Mission del Bac, as well as all around Arizona. It measures about 14" across the top and 2-3/4" high. Non Smoking, Pet Free Home.
