Description
The SH 965 NFX consists of two foil pickups that are clamped under the bridge feet and a small preamplifier that can be attached to the double bass. The abbreviation #NFX# stands for #nano# and #flexible#. This summarizes the basic concept of the pickup: it is very thin and flexible, so that it can optimally adapt to the curvature of the top. The development of the NFX technology was a joint effort between Shadow and the American company LR bags. The preamp is powered by a 3V button battery and features volume and tone controls. A 6.3mm jack socket serves as the output.Connected to the amplifier, the Shadow delivers a nice round and quite soft sound. It doesn't sound centric or nasal like many piezo pickups, but has a very natural frequency spectrum. The Shadow sounds balanced across the entire bass range; there are no noticeable #holes#. When trying out different systems, I found that the Shadow works best in connection with full range systems or # crisp # 10 boxes. With mid-range bass amps with large speakers, the sound is almost too soft. On the preamp you should set #Volume# and #Tone# so that it suits the amplifier, and then make further settings on the amplifier, because the pots are so small that they are not particularly suitable for adjustments during the gig. In terms of dynamics, background noise and feedback security, the SH 965 NFX delivers very convincing results.
