Description
ISAIAH THOMAS. Isaiah Thomas (1749–1831) was an important colonial-era American printer and publisher, second in renown only to Benjamin Franklin. In addition to authoring a massive History of Printing in America, one of the classics on the subject, Thomas also performed the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence.
RARE ORIGINAL WOODBLOCK PRINTING PLATE HAND-ENGRAVED AND SIGNED BY ISAIAH THOMAS, THE PROMINENT COLONIAL PRINTER AND PUBLISHER
Rare original woodblock printing plate hand-engraved and signed by Isaiah Thomas with his initials “I.T.” at the bottom right corner. The very fine 2.5” by 2” plate illustrates two knights with plumed helmets on horseback riding towards a castle and was printed in the 1795 edition of Nathan Ben Saddi’s
Chronicles of the Kings of England, from William the Conqueror to the year 1795
published by Thomas. It may have also been printed in Thomas’ 1789
