This listing is for an Antique Collectible 1882 1st edition of Bright Days In The Old Plantation Life by Mary Ross Banks.
This This is an original book from 1852, not a reprint or facsimile. It is an antique being 169 years old. It is in very good condition for its age. This book was authored by Mary Ross Banks based on her recollections of plantation life when she was a child. She states in the introduction that many incidents are chronicled as the occurred others are embellished. “…but all are told with the one idea of giving to my children’s children, a correct view of a Southern child’s life in the days of slavery.”
The book is in Good condition. The boards are cloth covered with the cover design & title embossed and the title on the front and the spine are gilt. The book is copyright 1882 and the dedication page is by Bankston Farm, Griffin GA. The book has many black & white illustrations by James H. Moser.
The cover boards are soiled and the edges & corners are worn, with the corners bumped. The top & bottom of the spine is missing a small strip of the cloth covering. The back cover is wrinkled and is discolored from water damage. The front inside cover page has a name & date written on it. The paper at the spine is cracked in several spots. The back cover inside spine edge also has cracked paper. The upper part of the front cover has a compressed section and the edge is not straight as a result.
The book is sewn together in sections so the page edges are not uniform. Some of the stringing has loosened. There is age discoloration on all the pages but I did not notice any foxing, stains, tears, writing, or folded corners. The paper is a heavy stock and is fairly supple. Most of the pages are tight in the spine. However, one of the sections is loose from the top stringing. Several of the illustrations are loose at the bottom stringing and 2 of the illustrations are completely loose from the spine.
PLEASE LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE PICTURES AS THEY ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION.
