    Description

Offered for sale this early Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) Native American Black Ash Basket with curls.
The basket is very fragile.  As you can see there is a piece of the basket chipped on the bottom, but still a great basket overall.   Beautiful design.  It measures 4" tall with a 5.25" top diameter.  It dates to the first or second quarter of the 20th Century.
The basket is similar in style to the ash baskets made by both the other Great Lakes tribes and the Northeastern Wabanaki people, but the Ho-Chunk were less likely to use sweetgrass, in their ash baskets. This basket would be a great addition to any collection.
