The artist used natural dye made from yellowroot and black walnut to achieve the light rust and brown tones. The lid fits loosely but well. It is not signed on the bottom but has the original tag from the Indian Arts and Crafts Board identifying it as Qualla, the eastern band of Cherokee Indians. It measures about 8" H x 8" W x 8" D. Great addition to any collection of native American items or baskets!
