    Description

This trinket bag is from my personal collection.  This bag was a gift (in about 2003) from a Yakima Indian woman
    who lived in the
    Toppenish area of the Mid-Columbia.
    This
twined root bag is constructed of cotton wefts and yarn warps.
    Weavers
worked in two major techniques, plain twining and full turn
    twining.
    I believe this
bag is a plain twining which limits the weaver's
choice of design to horizontal or vertical designs and simple
    rectangle
designs.  White cotton cord has been used since the 1920's or
30's.  It was and still is cheap
and plentiful.  You can see where the colorful yarns have been tied in down the inside of the bag.
The rim has been covered with brain tanned leather to protect it from damage when its being used.  In the old days, e
    very family
had many of these bags in many sizes.   Of course now this weaving is a dying art, there are not that many weavers who know how
    to weave these bags.
Measurements:   About 4 1/5" tall   by   4 1/2" across top     Bottom measures about 4 1/4" across
