    Description

Here is a vintage hatbox from the '50s, black and square, the pictures are of looking down at the top, looking at one side standing up, and of the inside, you can see the ties. We sell a lot of hats and hat boxes. Unfortunately I have raised a bunch of little collectors, so I have to reduce my inventory, I usually store the hats in the hatboxes, but this one was empty so it goes.  Top of hatbox is 12 by 12 1/2 inches, bottom is 12" by 12" (one side is bowed a little in), and the box is bottom is 7" deep and with the top is 7 1/2 inches deep. Boston Store was a big department store in Milwaukee from 1897 on Wisconsin Ave. and 4th Street until it was purchased by Bergner's in the 2000's. When I was very little the elevators had pretty red lights above them and rather old ladies (to me anyway) operated them and pulled the doors open for passengers to go to upper floors or down again,  so someone  went up those elevators to buy this hat, or bought it on the first floor or went up to keep shopping. That service went on for decades. Anyway, this is a pretty clean box with a simple price. Their are some  very small flat marks on the inside, not very noticeable. The inside top has staples holding it together, and there is a seal from, 'Morris Paper Mills, Illinois.' The box is sturdy, there is just one little partly pushed in place on the box, about an inch by 3/4 inch, and a few shiny marks on the outside. I got rid of a few. I honestly never noticed any of it until I scrutinized all of it for selling, none of it jumps out at you. No dirt, hair greases from a hat. It's a sturdy hatbox, and might be what you're looking for.
