2.25" diameter basket by Mary Newenham, MicMac basket maker has a cheery plaid bow, some red & red dyed weavers on the basket side.  Inside there is holiday greenery and some red berries -   This tiny basket is a miniature of the much larger baskets that are/were made bushel size (and 1/2, 1/4 bushel too) for harvesting potatoes in Aroostook county where Mary lives.  Mary has even wrapped the rim with an V wrap of an ash splint ... like the better made much larger potato baskets.  The smaller size potato baskets were sometimes used in the early 1900's by blueberry rakers here in Eastern Maine.
Mary added some holiday "greenery" and round red berries in the basket and placed a red plaid bow on the side of the handle.
I find the tiny "berries" in this basket so charming - the decorative red & green ash splints on the basket side are perfect for the winter season.
2.25" diameter basket is 1.5" high to rim and 3.25" high to top of the ash splint handle.   by Mary Newenham, MicMac basket maker.  Basket is made entirely of ash splints, the traditional basketry material of Wabanaki basketmakers....  Wabanaki Confederacy - 5 tribes residing in Maine, Vermont & Eastern Canada - The Abenaki, Maliseet, MicMac, Passamaquoddy and Penobscot.
