About Louise Bourgeois and her book Ode A La Bievre (from the Publisher):
******Louise Bourgeois' family moved next to the Bievre (River) in 1919 when she was 8 years old. The river's water was essential for washing fabrics for the family's business of tapestry restoration. Years later, Bourgeois was to go back to that house with her own family only to find the river no longer existed: "only the trees that my father had planted along its edge remained as a witness."
ODE À LA BIÈVRE was originally made by Louise Bourgeois In 2002 as a unique embroidered book created from fragments of cloth. This limited edition of 1800 copies faithfully reproduces the book to scale. Printed book of 52 pages. In the book, Bourgeois reminisces, through images and text, about the impact the Bievre River had on her and her family.******
