    ---
As part of the Great Basin Culture Area, the Chemehuevi (a Mojave term meaning “those that play with fish”), are a branch of the Southern Paiute, have been persistent occupants of the Mojave Desert.
Noted for their even and tightly woven baskets, Chemehuvi Olla's are prized for their graceful form and simplistic, yet sophisticated  designs and patterns.  The alternating colored rim stitches, called, Rim Ticking, and the primary zig zag band, with each point tipped in red yucca root, nicely balance each other.  An old price sticker of 0 from noted Indian Art dealer Don Hoel (likely 1950s era) remains.
