I was such a huge fan of Jane's Addiction in the late 80s/early 90s that I ordered vanity license plates - JNS ADXN - from the DMV in 1988 and registered them with my late 70s Toyota Celica that I drove in high school and beyond. I actually drove that car with those plates to the first Lollapalooza festival at Shoreline Amphitheatre in 1991. I ended up giving the car to my now-ex-wife when I moved out of statein 1994
. But before doing so, I removed the front license plate from the car as a personal souvenir. We have not kept in touch over the years, so I have no idea what
ultimately
became of the car or the rear plate. It's highly unlikely that it is still on the road all these years later. And it's equally unlikely that my ex-wife would've kept the rear plate as I don't think that she was a particular fan of Jane's Addiction. My best guess is that the car was scrapped at some point and the rear plate turned over to the California DMV to be destroyed as per protocol. So this license plate is very likely one-of-a-kind, but could be one-half of just two-of-a-kind.
I moved to L.A. in June 1997 and soon after started hearing promos on KROQ about a free ticket giveaway to see Jane's Addiction play at the Roxy to kick off their reunion (all original members except that Flea was standing in for Eric Avery on bass) with the "I-Itz M'My Party Tour." It was a completely free show that you had to win tickets for in order to go. I was a huge Jane's Addiction fan at the time and had been since I heard their first album in early 1988, which was recorded live at the very same Roxy Theatre as the free KROQ show. I even had vanity plates on the car I drove in high school which read, JNS ADXN. So when KROQ opened up the phone lines and began giving away free tickets, I started calling-in like a maniac every hour on the hour until I was finally the 10th caller that they answered and winner of a pair of tickets. Anyway, I took my roommate to the show with me and we had a great fucking time. After the show was over, we were sort of milling about outside of the Roxy and happened to meet a man who had two invitations to the after show party, but couldn't go himself. If I remember correctly, he said he was an off-duty LAPD officer who also happened to be a big Jane's Addiction fan. He said that he was married with a child and had to get home to his family, so he could not attend the after show party and offered the invitations to us. We gladly accepted, of course!
