ANTOINE-LOUIS BARYE (1795-1875), JAGUAR DEVOURING A DOE, LARGE 9.5 INCH BY 5.5 INCH BRONZE WITH BEAUTIFUL PATINA OF CHOCOLATE BROWN WITH COPPER HIGHLIGHTS. SIGNED IN THE SCULPTURE:  "BARYE".
Purchased new in the 1970s and stored in our warehouse since, this is still in the same virtually mint condition as the day we bought it. Barye, a Romantic French sculptor, was THE preeminent Animalier sculptor of the 1800s, and his bronze originals still go for a fortune. This is a beautifully done recast, by Excalibur Sculpture Factory in NYC in 1977, with a particularly wonderful and delicate patina, of one of his most famous bronzes-- the figure of the jaguar is still pure Barye!

Louis Paul Jonas was a master sculptor, taxidermist and exhibit designer and was the first to work with leading paleontologists to sculpt anatomically correct, incredibly life-like figures, in very dynamic poses.  The smaller ones is cast in resin, and the larger one in fiberglass.  Both limited to very small production runs.
