    Description

Recent find at a Southern Michigan estate sale is this: Antique Early 20th Century Native American, Penobscot Bay, Passamacuoddy Tribe ( Maine ) tightly woven Dk. Sweet Grass Sewing Gathering Basket w/ original Lid as shown in our photos. It measures 8 3/4" wide, 2 3/4" high and weighs 5 oz. The tightly woven and threaded sweet grass pieces are in very good condition for its age and the only exception is on the very base where the cloth thread used to secure the grass has loosened slightly as we tried to show in one of our photos. The sweet grass basket top, bottom and sidewalls are all structurally sound with no breaks in the grass. It's being offered as it was found and still has the dust from decades of storage on the lid which we feel adds even more to its authenticity. The workmanship is superb and this is one of the nicest baskets we have seen offered on E-bay in some time. It will make an excellent addition for someone's collection of Native American sewing and gathering baskets. As always at Fall Creek Collection, please feel free to contact us with any question or concern.  thank you
