The Materia Medica („medical material “) of the Qanun contains 760 medicines with data to their application and effectiveness. Ibn Sina was first, the rules set up, as a new medicine was to be examined, before it is given patients. Beside the canon there are still 15 medical works Ibn Sinas, from which eight are written in verses. They contain among other things the 25 indications of the recognition of diseases, hygenic rules, proven medicines, anatomical notes.
Ibn Sina noticed the close relationship between feelings and the physical condition and was concerned with the positive physical and psychological effect of the music on patients. To the many psychological disturbances, which it describes in the Qanun, also the dear illness belongs. As it means, Ibn Sina diagnosed the illness of the prince von Gorgan, who was bettlägerig and whose suffering confused the local physicians. Ibn Sina noticed a flutter in the pulse of the prince, when he the address and the name of its loving mentioned. The large physician had a simple cure: The patient should be united with his loving.
In 12. Century was translated the canon of Gerhard of Cremona into latin. The work, from which expenditures existed to 1470 in the entire West 15-30 latin, was valid to in 17.
