ARTHUR DOVE ( 1880 - 1946 ) WAS AN EARLY AMERICAN MODERNIST ARTIST, HE IS OFTEN CONSIDERED THE FIRST AMERICAN ABSTRACT PAINTER. DOVE USED A WIDE RANGE OF MEDIA, SOMETIMES UNCONVENTIONAL COMBINATIONS TO PRODUCE HIS ABSTRACTIONS. HE DEVELOPED A CLOSE PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FAMOUS AND IMPORTANT ART DEALER ALFRED STIEGLITZ THAT HAD A PROFOUND EFFECT ON HIS ARTWORKS AND CAREER.
