    Description

Antique / Vintage Winnebago Indian / Native American Ash Woven Basket with an Interlocking Handle
At the top the basket is 12” across in the longest direction and 11” across in the other direction
(it’s an oval) and is 8 3/4” tall excluding the handle.
The basket is in very good condition. On the inside two of the reeds that goes around the circumference of the basket show breaks. It's in the middle of one of the narrow sides. In the corners at the bottom the basket, breaks can be seen in a reed though I don't know if that is breakage or intentional as that could be where a new reed was started. You can see the condition in the photos. Please review all photos as they are to be considered a part of my description.
    Note of information:
“Until 1993, the Ho-Chunk Nation was known as the Wisconsin Winnebago Tribe, but the term Winnebago is a misnomer derived from the Algonquian language family and refers to the marsh lands of the region. Today, there are approximately 8,000 Ho-Chunk Nation “citizens living in the five districts of the Ho-Chunk Nation as well as living throughout the United States and the world.”  Quote from the site of the Wisconsin first nations org.
