    Description

Pomo Style Kit or Student Raffia Basket with Shells and Down Feathers-circa 1920. The bottom 2/3 of the basket has something applied that has made the basket hard and waterproof.  I obtained this from a very wealthy estate sale.  There was no information included at the sale.
I sent pictures of the basket for an independent appraisal and was given the following information:
"This is what's known as a kit or student basket.  The material used is raffia and the form is Pomo.  These baskets were woven between 1915-1925 at the Stewart Indian School near Carson City, Nevada and other Indian schools as well.  The kits were also a rage at that time among white woman who would weave them in groups ala sewing bees."
Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
