    Description

You're bidding on "The Holy Bible", published 1882 by A.J. Holman & Co., Philadelphia. "Containing the Old and New Testaments, translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised; with complete concordance, embracing every passage of scripture in the latest editions, Apocrypha and Psalms."
Book is a large, Victorian period family-style Bible - 10" X 12 1/2" format, 3" thick and almost 9 lbs. Leather-bound, with ornate stamped board design and gilt illustrated titling on front board. Pages are gilt edged and book is illustrated throughout, in-text and with full plate engravings and a color litho prayer at the front, as well as a (empty) photo album section at back.
Of particular interest, there a genealogy section that has been extensively completed. There's an ownership inscription in the front of the book, "Mary A. Bennett - Strafford, N.H." She was the daughter of Samuel Hill (1787-1867) and the genealogy primarily documents his line and her siblings. "Strafford" may mean Strafford County as much of the activity takes place in that area and the family homestead appears to have been on Bow Lake. Find-A-Grave shows that Samuel, his wife Hannah, Mary, and others are buried in a family plot in Northwood, NH.
NOTE - some issues of condition - primarily, the front hinge is cracked, front board is attached but only by the stitching. Rear board is slightly cracked but still fairly solid. Scuff, wear and fray generally to the boards and spine, but still retains decent presentation appeal. Genealogy pages are detached from the book, but still present. SOLD AS IS AS FOUND.
All that said, condition is otherwise actually pretty decent for age and type - appears complete and pages throughout are generally clean, with some light foxing in proximity to the boards, and minimally throughout.
Please review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal, and don't hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding - thanks for looking!
