    Draped Bust (1796-1807)
    -
Draped Bust Large Cents were the nation’s third cent issue replacing the short lived Flowing Hair Chain and Wreath Cent and the Liberty Cap Cent. Designed by Robert Scot the coins were struck on copper planchets weighing 10.89 grams that were 29 mm in diameter. They feature a portrait ‘emblematic of Liberty’ as ordered by the coinage act of 1792. The image was more refined than the early likenesses with the hair of Liberty tied back with a ribbon and the bust draped in cloth. - osx
